Crossover
« on: 31 Mar 2010, 06:38 pm »
I am trying to find out what kind or type of crossover would be best to use with:

SW 208 8" woofer

We do not know the tweeter or mid range at this time, but we will have that information soon.

This  is being done for a high school physics project, we have already made the box for all the speakers and now we just need a crossover for them.

Thank you much!

The best type to use is whatever the acoustic output of the drivers call for.

You have a Clio there at your disposal. Take measurements of each driver individually and leave all three measurement there on one graph.

Be sure to set you mic on tweeter axis, if that is your reference listening height (typical), for all three measurements.

Then post your graph here for further recommendations.

Your next step is to do some reading, then we'll do the measuring.  Find some DIY projects that use 8" woofers in three way systems.  Check out the crossover points, and what the approximate values were used for the inductors, capacitors, and resistors.  Make sure you know what each of these do.  You have to put in some time before you begin to see how a crossover works.  This was discussed in this thread-

I have to remind myself that these kids are starting from the beginning.
