I've had pretty good luck lately buying stuff that I didn't really know: Built To Spill, Flaming Lips & Beck were all big Thumbs Up! But I got adventurous and bought the newest Coldplay CD, "A Rush of Blood to the Head" and I'm not really thrilled with it.
Partially I was disappointed to find the only songs I really liked a lot were the ones I'd already heard. Most of the time I find that the singles are usually not my faves, but in this case they were the only ones that really struck me as notable.
They just don't strike me as very fresh or original- almost everything I heard on the disc is derivative or recylcled sounding. I've heard this all before, and heard it done better. I don't *hate* it, just find it middle of the road pop.
The high spots? Well, I really liked "Clocks" and "Daylight." Often I'm not drawn to the most accessible songs on an album, but in this case I was.
Maybe it'll grow on me with more listens, but frankly I didn't care enough for it that I really want to replay it much.
