It may appear to look like a SL1200 and cheaper because it is.The build quality is no where near that of the Technics.Just looking at the weight of each table in the specs tell alot.
I do not think you would be happy with the AudioTechnica, just save your pennies a little longer and purchase a table you can be happy with for a long time to come.
Or buy yourself a vintage Idler(Lenco),do some DIY mods and end the search forever.

It seems a pretty good clone and there's 250 reviews at Amazon on it  :thumb:

Someone else brought the subject up on AC a year or so ago....and many of the reviews read back then indicated some quality control issues.  But the latest 50 or so from the past year seems like those issues were resolved with the latest units.

If its hollow inside (unlike the Technics SL-1200 which is dense rubber and aluminum tri-ply for a fully damped chassis) you can always fill with $25 of modeling clay to approximate the same result as the Technics SL-1200. Perhaps even better it as rubber is not an ideal compound for damping (it tends to 'sound' overdamped...as when used for a platter mat)
