Hi Rudy,
I think the MK 5 has upgraded tonearm internal wire. There might be something about the height adjustment mechanism, or arm mount, that's improved, I'm not sure. You can find out everything you want to know here:
http://www.kabusa.com/frameset.htm?/1200bld.htm

If your questions are not answered, you can email them or call.
I never heard of a TT with a lock. There are a lot of DJ cases available for the 1200. I'm sure you could get one with a lock.

thanks,   ill check that out..   i think none of the technics have the key lock or key correction i was looking for , they do appeer to have quartz lock however at least at the m3d mg5 not  sure about mk5 ,,
so know i may get a nice belt drive and a cheaper dj table with key lock, i know stanton and numark have tables with the key lock., i mainly wanted that cuz i like to speed up certain already speedy lp's for audio bliss while keeping the vocals sounding normal with the key lock,  the only caviat is some of the cheaper models with this feature  have a fixed pitch, not a variable pitch with  diff speedds at click of button, so i know worry with a fixed pitch model, it may be pointless to even have the key lock for what im looking for, or the speed i want increased will be limited with the pitch slider,,,  i have no idea of knowing without getting some hands on.   but i think it may be safer just to try a cheaper one and hope this speed can be achieved, we shall see, another annoying factor is the sheer weight of some of the full featured dj tt's, some over 35 pounds.

thanks for the help

hey rudy,
The Key-lock feature is a digital processor....it takes the analog and modifies that. While a helpful feature for mixing, club work, that type of processing is the opposite of what most home vinyl listeners want (analog to digital to analog).  None of the technics tables offer that sort of digital processing. that's the realm of Numark, gemini, etc.

I barely remember the details from my talk with Kevin (KAB) but there are a few differences b/t the MK2 and Mk5. The one I remember is he said that the arm wiring in the mk5 is better.

I have a 1210mk5

Rudy, go for a mixer with key lock instead of a deck with one. Trust me. You'll save quite a bit and still end up with a better deck.  The M5G has a range of +/- 16  enough range for a hip hop and jungle mash up.

If you can get your hands on a Tascam X-9 Pro, you'll find it can do key correction on two different tracks simultaneously and is assignable to any of 8 inputs.
