Octopus Tripath amplifier - SOLD
« on: 26 Mar 2010, 08:56 pm »
Up for sale is an Octopus amplifier. The Octopus is a low power (7 watts per channel), Tripath based amp that was made by Michael Mardis. For those in the know, Michael was a pioneer in the world of Tripath amplification – also known as “Class T” -  and the Octopus was his baby.

This particular unit was custom made in May of 2006 for a sound engineer in NYC, who used it to drive a pair of Horn Shoppe Single Driver Loudspeakers. I bought it from him a few weeks ago, hoping it would make my John Blue JB3 speakers sing. I used this amp in my office set up with a Mod Squad Line Drive passive pre-amp along with several source inputs. While the sound is outstanding, it is not loud at all. (I think I may have hit the gain limits with this set up.) I’ve made some additional changes to my home office system and no longer have need for the Octopus, so it is up for sale.

Asking $275 – including paypal fees and shipping in the CONUS. Included is the amp, and the 15V AC power supply adapter with a ¼” phono plug. Both are in great shape.

Note:  I've only used the supplied power supply, but from the sticker on the bottom of the amp I have to assume you could use a battery based power supply like Red Wine Audio does.
