Question for James Tanner...
« on: 26 Mar 2010, 02:12 am »
James,

There is a person on audiogon selling a used BP25 and they say that it's easy to swap a Bryston preamp faceplate yourself.  As you know, I have a black BP6 and I want a silver faceplate.  Would it be possible for me to buy the face plate and knobs and do the switch myself.  Would this be cheaper?  Would it void my warranty?

Thanks you!

Depending upon where you live a quick call or email to a Bryston Service Center will also get you an answer.

I visited Bryston last year with my BP20 preamp and watched while Mike Pickett (Service Manager)installed a new lower chassis and rubber feet from the BP26. Mike is a superb technician and engineer and representative of the way Bryston does things. For the low additional cost for labour and shipping it would be far better to have Bryston install the dress panel and knobs than attempt it yourself IMO  :eyebrows:

SFOX, thanks.  That sounds right to me.  It's just hard for me to part with $300 for just a cosmetic change.  Still on the fence I guess.

Hi Jaxwired,

Last year I swapped out my 19' BP25P face plate to match the 17" on the BCD-1, if you have the tools and are comfortable taking things apart it's quite strait forward, doesn't void the warranty unless you start messing with the insides which may be why it's suggested sending it to Bryston. In the end it's your call, I like doing things myself.

Hi Jaxwired,

I changed out knobs and faceplate on my Bryston BP25 a couple of years ago and it was very simple to do.

Best,

John

Thanks everyone.  I'm going to email Bryston service and ask them about it...  I'll post my findings.  :)

Just ordered a new dress panel (faceplate) and knobs.   The guy at Bryston in Ontario described the process and outlined the tools needed.  I'm not too worried.  I think I can handle it...

I'll save about $125 plus I won't have to live without my preamp while it's being serviced.

That’s the way to go!
I think many of us forget that with such a great warranty on Bryston that we are a bit timid to get in there and have a tendency to forget that we actually own the equipment and should feel free to do what ever we like with it.
Assuming the worst-case scenario, we would need to actual pay for any stupidities on our end but in all likely hood still get Bryston to repair or reverse any technical downfall.
In the early stages of this hobby I don't remember any piece of equipment that was left unopened, scrutinized and possibly modified.

Yeah, with a handle like jaxwired this job should be a walk in the park. :thumb:

Hi Mr. Tanner

I discovered your product  and toured your facility about 2 years ago and your building for me now, 3BSST, Bryston Dac, Bryston CD to add to my BP6,BP12 and 2BSST.
Just a quick questions. Does the DAC interface with Pro Tools Digidesign. Is there special software.
thanks your staff is doing great job

Hi Nate,

Thank you for your kind words.  As long as the Protools outputs PCM Digital the BDA-1 will interface.
