Linear PCM vs Dolby

Linear PCM vs Dolby

Sometimes my receiver displays "Linear PCM" and sometimes "Dolby Digital", I have a Sony STR DH800 receiver and can't find any notations describing "Linear PCM"--is that the same as DTS TrueHD or something else. My question: What is "Linear PCM"??

Sorry---I found the answer I needed...Linear PCM is a good thing.
