Have fun!

And let us know the outcome of this session:

i.e. if it's about some new DRM scams.

too bad although I can't blame you on the choice of location. The EHX website threw me as the daily highlights advise "May" as opposed to March.

James - Congrats on the awards! Which Oppo model were you using?

BTW - you didn't miss too much in Montreal. I hadn't been to the show in years so my point of reference is rather old but the number of exhibitors was pretty low (maybe the economy thing again...) and for the most part I thought it was pretty poor.

James,

Based on your system desciption, looks like a 7.1 HT system.

What music (or film) were you demo'ing?  Any 96/24 or AIX Records Videos?

Please post photo's!!

Cheers, JohnnyB

You know I am not sure which OPPO it was - I assume their top BlueRay player?

Hi JohnnyB,

We used a variety but they were 48K surround 5.1 and 7.1 files for the most part.

The chip is capable of room correction but we may not impliment it (I hate room correction) and if we do only from 200Hz and down.

James, you should really think twice about it, even if you dislike it !
-> You will loose lots of consummers without it !
At least, give the choice as an option for thoose who really want/need it !

...

- pure audio version
- pure audio version with EQ
- audio version with EQ and video processing

Everybody will be happy !

Mhhh I don't see much point in trying to compete head to head with this:

http://statement.anthemav.com/HTML/Products/D2v/D2v.html

I have Audyssey and I'm not impressed. It produces a dull sound that is "acceptable to most audiences". It won't shine in any way, it will just mask issues (to some extent).

If you have room problems, for HT I'd rather suggest you use small speakers (of good quality) with wide dispersion (you may consider omnipolars too) and use a state-of-the art subwoofer that has built-in room correction (or use something like this: http://www.paradigm.com/en/paradigm/subwoofers-paradigmperfectbasskit%28pbk1%29-series-1-5-30.paradigm).

In my experience the result is more satisfying than having the whole audio spectrum DSP-ed.

I can perfectly understand James position on this.

I understand it too and i don't plan to buy a SP3 anyway...
I don't have any problems with my system, witch is pretty well tuned (i'm using my Revel Sub30 owns EQ + MC12V5EQ for this...) !
I just know lots of people won't even consider the SP3 as an alternative choice because it won't provide any EQ (good or not !)...
They will rather go for the Anthem or the Denon (or Onkyo or what ever).
I'm not sure that's what James wants to happen  :?
-> adding the feature could change the sellings...

Just my point !

Hi MOZ,

You know its an interesting question - I have always prided myself in offering gear that I felt was the correct and proper way to reproduce music as accurately as possible. I think you're correct though that we would probably lose customers if we did not offer room correction as part of the package.

I am still in the pondering stage on this one.

Interesting points, but i am curious

What are people here doing to tune their  5.1 HT systems to a room without a room correction product.

The bass is one thing(sub-woofer/crossover), and I understand that. Interesting that most people use a room correction product for the sub-woofer.

But how do you balance the rest of the full range speakers in a 5.1 system, using something like a pair of PMC EB1i's and say CB6i's for centre and surrounds.

You can set distances of the speakers, and the proper toe in as suggested by THX. Room treatments.
SPL each speaker. Anything else.
