I have another rendition of the NS-60 that is ideal for the Zu Defintion 1.9, MKII and Klipsch RF-83's, plus other sensitive speakers that have a wide dynamic range and good power handling capablities. This special edition NS-60 uses an external DC power supply for all tube filaments, has a comparator drive stage and a anode-output pre-driver circuit. This amp is made for high end speakers that are very efficient, yet have a wide dynamic range capable of absorbing relatively high wattage.
All three speakers are within the 1w=100db range. They work good, but not what I would call great with low wattage amplifiers, such as most SET's. I made this amplifier choice based on a worse case scenario. Worse case meaning highest demand on an amplifier during transient peaks as well as high impact listening sessions. In my own system, I have easily wrung out single digit wattage amps as well as smaller double digit ones. I can tell when transient demands are not being met. I listen at relatively high volumes so everything can be heard. I like to hear the non-musical aspects of music! Breathing, papers being moved, subtle instrument imperfections, a pick sliding on strings and so on.
Operating less sensitive speakers, down to around 88db is not a problem for this amplifier. This is a great amplifier choice for a multitude of listening tastes and compatible with a wide range of equipment.
The NS-60 special edition is priced at $2000.00. Our standard NS-60 is $1600.00.
Please note: Not ALL high efficiency speakers accept power like these three. If they do not, we have other models that will suit those perfectly.
