Can Someone Help Me Identify These Tonearms?
« on: 16 Mar 2010, 12:22 am »
Hi All,
Recently a close friend of mine passed away. I offered to help his wife sell off some of his old equipment. Most of his stuff is going to continue to be used by his wife or his grown son, but there are still some items to sell. Most I don't have any trouble identifying but some are giving me trouble. One is a unipivot tonearm, the other is an SLT Rabco. I think both of these arms are from the 1970's or perhaps earlier.

In the case of the unipivot arm, can you tell me what it is and also if it may be missing any obvious parts? I know there should be a tonearm cable, but that's likely a generic part. But what about any anti-skate parts?

For the Rabco, my friend had an Owner's/Service manual and had disassembled the arm. Maybe he was planning to get it running again. I assume the parts are all there. When I look at the pictures in the manual, I don't see any arms that look like this one. The arm cross section I see in the manual is rectangular while the arm my friend had is tubular. Here are some photos.

Thanks very much for your help.

Hi,

the unipivot arm is an Audio Craft AC-300C tonearm of the japanese manufacturer Osawa.

Thanks Toni,

You're right, it's definitely an Audiocraft arm. Some of the color of the metal pieces are different though (the arm I have is almost all silver colored and the one on the brochure has some black metal parts. I wonder if the one I have is an earlier version of the AC-300C. The arm in the brochure has an anti-skate feature that isn't on the arm I have. I suspected that must have been missing but the arm didn't look like there was a place for it to be installed. I'll have to check it over more closely. Thanks again for your help.
