BluRay player that has network card for Netflix
« on: 12 Mar 2010, 01:05 pm »
I have two questions actually.  This stems from the fact that my HDTVs have only a single digital input and that is DVI.  Presently I use that input for directv and have an adapter to go from hdmi output on the directv receiver to dvi cable to the tv.
I am strictly 2 channel sound and there is only the stereo inputs on the tv that are associated w/ the dvi input.  I am thinking of getting an inexpensive hdmi switch and hope someone can suggest a BluRay player that has another digital sound output that can be set to 2 channel PCM via a toslink and I can run that to my DAC.
So need a BluRay player that has a quality picture and meets my sound needs and can be plugged into my home network to get Netflix.  In addition I need an inexpensive hdmi switch that is compliant w/ the copy protection standard that is built into hdmi.
TIA

HDMI - http://reviews.cnet.com/4321-7871_7-6602831.html

BluRay Player - The Panasonic BD65 or BD85(if you want wireless built in) should do it for you. They have NetFlix and I think toslink out.

Neither HDTV has 1080p resolution.  They only go up to 1080i.  Will the BluRay players have a problem w/ 1080p or will the TV scalar take care of things.

They should not. Unfortunately the manuals are not out yet for these Panasonic models as they are brand new but if you look in the predecessor manual (BD60) it claims that it can output 1080i via HDMI or component video so you should be fine.

As always if there is any doubt make your purchase where it's easy to return the unit if it doesn't work as needed.
