Dynaco 70 Power Xformer
« on: 12 Mar 2010, 03:22 am »
The issue has been talked about from time to time here, but I can't seem to find the thread now.

I got my Dynaco 70 for the Ultra 70 mod today. I paid a GOOD price for it, in fairly decent shape, everything work, doesn't sound too bad as is.

When I get close, I can hear the power Xformer's making some hum, and it has a light vibration while I rest my hand on top of it. I can feel the vibration when I put my hand on the cage.

There's some light hum through the speakers just as what you'd expect from any old tube amps. I am not sure if the noise from the power Xformer vibrating has gotten through to the speakers, I don't think so, since I didn't hear any rattling through the speakers.

Is there anything that I can tighten up in the power Xformer, or anything that I can isolate it with?

Try these power transformer isolation mounts from Dynakitparts:

These are used on the transformers supplied to AVA fot the Ultravalve. Almost all of the mechanical hum is caused by the laminations of the core and coil style construction of the transformer. This kit tightens up the assembly, stopping any kind of mechanical vibration (which is magnetically induced (60 cycle per sencond movement)).
