I noticed that too.

I would imagine he is dropping it due to offering their own subs now, yes?

Hi Mark,

Try www.acoustic-visions.com.  The Rava is still listed there at $399.99.

Whooow...  Thanks spectralman.  I just found it at adire audio to, so I will still ba able to get this great sub.  I was already thinking I would have to save another 200-400 dollars to get something offering similar performance or go ahead and tryout a a kit form parts express.  :|

Mark:   No worries.... I just took it off the site because Adire doesn't have them in stock.   They go back on the site as soon as they are available to ship.

Also may as well update the other subwoofer news while I'm on the subject.

The MicroWMD project is coming along nicely.   Price is still on budget for a $439 for the entire kit.  The popular FX-10 driver by Adire wouldn't work for the PE enclosures due to the difference in basket size so we did a quick redesigned with 12 spoke basket, lower Fs & higher Q to better optimize our driver for sealed box & dipole performance.  The response curve of the new system extends lower in the small sealed box. The drivers are in line for production and should be available (hopefully) in Feb 2004.  These have the XBL^2 motor technology that gives us REALLY low distortion, much lower power compression and lower inductance than the older technology drivers.   How much?   Go see the Adire web site where they compare the XBL^2 motors to some of the better underhung/overhung VC designs.

http://www.adireaudio.com/tech_papers/xbl2_motors.htm

Also another surprise.... we are going to have a 12" WMD based on the same motor as used in the MicroWMD 10".  It will be a twelve spoke basket XBL^2 driver optimized for sealed box (IB) or dipole use.   It will have about 20mm of usable excursion, high Q & lower Fs, which should make it about perfect for 2 cu. ft. sealed enclosures.     We will sell it as a drop-in replacement for the PE kit and we are kicking around the idea of a series of dipole subs to compliment the sealed box line.

Hi Kevin,

The new driver in the MicroWMD sounds great!  Any chance you'll be shipping by the middle of March?

A dipole version would be intriguing as well.  What kind of physical dimensions and price point are you considering?  I just heard a pair of the Linkwitz Orions and they're seriously good!  Of course I couldn't help wondering if an Adire XBL^2 driver wouldn't be better than the 2 Peerless 12" on the bottom. . .

Dayne,

ETA is not firm yet.   I'm expecting 3-5 weeks at this point so it could be close.

Dipole product will take some time.   Physical size for a 12" version would be similiar to Linkwitz's design.   We would probably use an LC Audio digital amplifier along with a custom EQ circuit so you have $600 in parts right out of the box.   The H-baffle is an unknown..... we would need to find a supplier to build it, design some packaging etc....

I'm guessing you would be looking at around $1500-$1700/pr for the 12" version.   A Tumult dipole would be twice that amount or more and the 10" version a little cheaper.  They would be more expensive than a box sub simply because you need roughly x4 as many drivers and two amps.

... and the dipoles, too. Do you think a pair would sound good matched with well made monitors (like the VMPS 626Rs)? Or, would they need to be matched with another open baffle design (like the Orions)?

Thanks...

Still waiting on drivers from the build house.   I'll poke the fire a little on Monday and find out where we are.

The dipoles are one of those projects on the books.  I'm working on a couple other little surprises in the speaker side of things that will use the dipoles so I'm waiting on a couple of those to mature before pursuing the dipole project.
