DIY Source needed to complete system
« on: 6 Mar 2010, 03:28 pm »
So far I have built my speakers, speaker cables, interconnects, assembled the classd amp and now
I want to build or assemble my source player.  I would want to be able to play my flac files.

So first thought is a mini itx pc with a killer sound card - but open to any suggestions.

The goal is to have a complete system that I either built or assembled.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Any thoughts of just sticking with a DIY DAC, since you seem to already have a computer up and running? I think there are some pretty decent kits around, most pretty straight forward. If you're up for a challenge and a bit of a masochist, you could build a Phillips TDA154* DAC point-to-point...

Twisted Pear Buffalo 2 would be perfect.

Patience is a virtue. They will make more and people sell the kits all the time.

The Buffalo II looks great.  Is there anything DIY akin to a Squeezebox that can feed this board?

I would just feed it with a computer. Or an actual squeezebox. There is no shame in that.
