Lowther DX2
« on: 3 Mar 2010, 01:20 pm »
Hello,

I am using a pair of Lowther DX2 drivers in a pair of DIY cabs.

My amplifier is a Quad 405-2 with full Net Audio MK3 upgrade.

My concern is that when I switch my Quad 405-2 on, it has a switch-on 'thud'. Is this very dangerous for the DX2 drivers?

I'm aware Lowthers are really made to go with low Valve amps etc. I might think about getting a nice decent integrated Valve amp for my Lowthers.

I would rather not sell the Lowthers as they are not fully run yet. But I have to say they do have a very nice midrange and vocal presentation. And the speed of the lowthers is very good also. I know they lack deep bass, but these are properly the best sounding drivers I have heard in a long time.

Does anyone have any suggestions for some good Valve integrated amps? Something that will match very well for my DX2. I use my system in a bedroom and my listening is very near field. I sit approx 7 ft away from my hifi.

And I listen to all types of music.

Thank you,
Shane.

Hi Shane,  Go to the "Decware" website and check out all of the amps that he builds. I bet you will find one to your liking  there. They are hand built the old fashion way with point to point wiring. I'm sure some of the other guys will have some good suggestions for you also.  Good Luck!
