What artist or band do you have the most of?
« on: 3 Mar 2010, 04:19 am »
Who takes up the most real estate in your CD, vinyl or digital collection, how many recordings of theirs do you have and WHY do they have that status?

Me? Elvis Costello. For a while there in the mid 90s I was buying both his old and current stuff and he was putting out so much I just got overwhelmed. I don't even know if he's my favorite. Just kinda happened.  Love him tho. I have nearly all his albums save for a handful.  So 20 odd?

New Order.
21: 8 vinyl + 13 CD
Why? I'm a child of the 80s. Went to Art School. and they just amazed me-still do. I have a bunch of 12" and CD extended versions.

But they are number 2 to Depeche Mode for total songs played on my computer server, according to my last.fm tracking.

Yo Jason, without a doubt that artist would be Miles Davis. I think I have about 45 LPs and maybe about 36 CDs...bearing in mind that many of the LPs/Cd are double albums and quite a few CD are box sets of 5 or more cds. Yeah, Miles does it to me for sure. The next in line might be SunRa, not sure how many LPs I got, but its more than 20 for sure, with about 15 or so cds.
There is no 'Why', just IS.  :thumb:

It would have to The Beatles counting old scratchy albums and the new stereo remastered box set.

Vinyl, CDs and DVDs combined, not counting duplicates--
The Moody Blues - 26 records; 21 CDs; 5 DVDs
The Beatles - 24 records; 32 CDs; 7 DVDs
Neil Young - 20 records; 20 CDs; 9 DVDs
U2 - 20 records; 20 CDs; 9 DVDs

Why? Because I really enjoy their music and can listen to it over and over and never get tired of hearing it.

Aw, it's all Grateful Dead.
All the vinyl albums they put out,
At least one dupe of each on cd, more as they got better recordings, as they all went HD/CD.
About 20 European 'boots' that used to be for sale.
All the solo stuff by the band members..
All the Dick's Picks.
'Boots' of most of the concerts I attended
and of course, all the audience recordings I can choke on, but I quit rather than keep collecting.  Enough is enough!

That about covers it.

...not to brag, I just never stopped when a good recording came by...

John Abercrombie: 15 CD, 4 vinyl - just like most of his guitar work. Crossed paths with ECM jazz artists in the early 70's, have followed since.
Eberhard Weber: 12 CD, 3 vinyl - love all his bass
Terje Rypdal: 11 CD, 3 vinyl - his guitar & writing mentally takes me to the mtns/fijords (sp), generally

Steeleye Span: 14 CD, 4 vinyl - enjoy English folk-rock
Fairport Convention: 10 CD, 8 vinyl - "                      , only 2nd to Steeleye because I have yet to fill in gaps.

runner ups - Fleetwood Mac (pre Buckingham-Nicks), Savoy Brown, & Miles

I'm too lazy to get off my duff & count, but my favorites as indicated by numbers would be: Bill Frissell (everything solo he's ever released,) Stravinsky (dozens of lps and many cds,) Schoenberg, Mahler, Mozart, & Leo Kottke.

NIN: All 27 Halo and 6 Seed releases with some vinyl, hi-res, and SACD dupes. Why? It just rubs me the wrong way.

Also, pretty much everything released by Pink Floyd and Peter Gabriel in multiple formats.
