Good luck.  I gave up looking for them.   Talk to Jonathan Weiss, I think he has some that he'll sell you if you buy his horn$$$.

i know its a shot in the dark , but I have to at least try.
wish me luck.
there also was a thread about a rca 1428 clone from china, but no one here has listened to it as it seems.

Why you would think about taking a chance on some unknown driver of unverifiable quality from the Pacific Rim when there's a pair of Cogents on Audiogon is beyond me...

There have been 1428s around lately, and being in 'vintage' condition didn't lead to much of a discount from the Cogent used price.

hi John

if i could afford the cogents that are on audiogon , or even justify spending this much money on a driver , i would.
but i can't .
so i am hoping that there might be a slim chance to pick up  the RCA drivers for a lot less then $11500.
perhaps i am mistaken about the prices the vintage RCA's are going for and then you are right, and i just have to forget about it.

The price of the cogents are about 10 times the price of the RCAs even on a'gon.

I must be looking in all the wrong places, because every pair of RCA field coils I see go for upwards of $4-5k and prices have only been going up. Considering the risk involved considering the condition, I don't consider that much of a discount.

Even the permanent magnet ones are all going for almost 2k. Supposedly the sixmoons dudes got a pair for only $1000. If I could snag a pair for that, the sound of my wallet snapping open would not be unlike the sound of a gunshot...

Heck, Steve Schell listed a pair of Altec 287 for 10k on ebay recently. He got no takers, but if anyone would I would think he has a clue about what the market is.

Malcolm,

Given the price differential, I imagine you would get much better value out of these:

I'm not certain about the cost these days but I'm pretty sure you could buy a pair for under $1000.

Hi,

I have some RCA 1428B drivers in perfect functional condition.  I am building a 5 way Audio Note horn system and they are now surplus to requirements.
