This got dismissed by the critics (that I read) and may not have been seen much.  It's pretty good.  Think you should rent it.  Here's why.  Michael Mann, the director, gives us a beautiful picture of sepia tones which seemed to me appropriate for the era and clean cinematography.  It's nice to look at.  There are a whole bunch of actors in this in cameo and larger roles that you haven't seen in awhile and may have wondered what they were doing.  It portrays J Edgar Hoover as very hands on and suggests that the Chicago mob provided assistance to Dillinger's crew until J Edgar got congress to go interstate about bank robberies (the mob was already interstate with impunity and knew this would enable the FBI).  Things Dillinger is quoted to have said and pictures that appeared of him are put into context.  It's a little long and lanquishes in spots but I rather liked it.
