Aother SA-XR45 convert

My 240 volt  SA-XR45 arrived  yesterday ,  AUD$ 780 delivered.
Quite a bit more expensive here in Australia than in the US  but its still a steal for what it can do.
Its not anywhere near burned in yet ofcourse but this little marvel has impressed me already.
My  front 2 speakers are Von Schweikert VR4.5S,  they are 6 ohms, 91db , 20-20k.  The Panny drives them  NO PROBLEMO, the bass  extension  and control is  Amazing  .
Its the best bass ive ever heard out of these speakers  and all with some crapola  speaker wires on  too (there was NO WAY i could get my Harmonic Tech Pro 11  Biwires to fit the useless posts  on the panny

Great PRAT and sense of space.

mids dont reach out and touch as well as my regular amp  and i find i like it better with the treble down 1 db or it gets a bit harsh.  I turned the bass up 1db.

Anyway it  certainly shows some promise.

Wayne , any prices on the mods yet?

 cheers
dave

This weekend's get together has been moved to next week for a couple of reasons - 1) Teres Audio having a meet on the same day, and 2) Wayne told me the new changes he made need another week of break in.

Hello Dave,

I am glad you were able to get a SA-X45 to work with the voltage down under.

I have not seen a 240 VAC version or the schematics of one. I do not really know what, if anything is different about the power supply. I cannot give you an idea of the cost of modding a 240 VAC unit until I actually see one or the schematic.

There was a question about converting a 120 VAC to 240 VAC. Again, I do not know what the differences are. I would suggest, even though it may cost more overseas, the unit should be purchased with the correct power supply board in place.

The listening session has been postponed for a week until the latest upgrades to the modded unit have broken in. Prices will not be set for the bi-amp version until at least 2/9/04. The initial prices will be "introductory" prices. After I get a few mods done, I will have a better idea of the time of labor involved and the price of the mod may be adjusted.

For now, all I can do is ask everybody to be patient.

I just noticed that my 240 volt XR45 does NOT have any Component video ins!, only composhite and  SVid. It does not bother me particularly as i dont run video thru it anyway ( i have my Momitsu DVD  connected to my projector directly via DVI and componant )

Still ,i think i will buy a  US$300 120 volt xr45 to get modded  next and run it here from a 240-120volt step down tranny, i guess it will have to be a big one tho . It might help as a power conditioner too, gota be a big one tho . what size do you think Wayne?
I will check out the tranny price here  and  see how it adds up.
I will also call pansonic Australia and  try and get a 240 volt schematic , i
will send to  you (Wayne) if i can.

I compared the analog input on the panny to using a stock Dio  doing A/D at 96khz.
The Dio doing AD has a LOT more level than the panny but after adjusting the gain  i think i actually prefer the Panny doing the A/D ing, its smoother in the highs.

the direct digital in is the best of course , my Philips dvd963sa player outputs 96khz / 192khz / 44.1khz and you can really hear the differances  between them  on the panny. more so than i  ever have previously, I really like 96 and 192 in , well actually they all sound good just 'differant'.

I watched the Eagles dvd in Dts last night, best i have EVER heard it! ( and i know it well)

 this amp is Sooo Quiet!

 Dave, having fun
