Can anyone really listen to entire Wilco songs?

For instance, I've never listened to the entire song Spiders (Kidsmoke) from A Ghost is Born. There's about two minutes at the end of the song that's absolutely unlistenable. There are a few other songs on this CD that I also think dissolve into horrible feedback. I forget which song it is but I RUN to the remote to skip part of the song.

Can anyone really listen to a Wilco CD the entire way through?

Yes I can. Handshake Drugs is a FANTASTIC song. Plus that is only newer stuff.

I sure can, including Spiders. I'm a big fan of all their stuff and have seen them live four times. Great performers.

Yes, of course. You picked one of the only songs in their pretty fantastic catalog that Jeff decided to give that treatment to. It's like saying you can't listen to any Beatles song from beginning to end cuz Revolution Number 9 is so hard to sit through.

I'm not a big fan of A Ghost Is Born, but I love Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, Sky Blue Sky, and Wilco (The Album) and find them very easy to listen to from start to finish, especially the LPs.

YHF and Summerteeth are desert island discs for me. I do find AGIB a bit forced...and although I love everything they do off of Sky Blue Sky live in concert (seen them twice since) I don't like the creamy production values of the studio album that much.

Oh yeah, the song is called "Less than you think". I can only listen to a minute or so of this song, then must skip the rest of the song.

Interesting. I think I only have one other Wilco CD (yankee hotel foxtrot), but based on this one, I didn't see any reason to buy more than these two. Maybe I'll have to rethink that.

Sure. I find the entire "Sky Bkue Sky" release enjoyable all the way through. But I must admit I've never listened to it in the sweet seat for critical listening. I normally don't for pop music.

Wilco has a very distinct eveolution. Directly post Uncle Tupelo the sound has that twang
A.M. > Being There > Summerteeth > YHF. YHF IMVVVVHO is their best to date. A.M. and Being There do not sound like YHF or AGIB.

Many Wilco tracks are reference quality. I am not the only one who feels this way. One of my personal references is "Kingpin". For vinyl the fist track off summerteeth is great.

A Ghost Is Born is the Wilco album that really connected with me. It may still be my favorite.

Ummm...YES!!!

I can listen to all their albums all the way through (outside of the feedback on the song you reference).

They are one of my favorite bands.

Their portfolio is quite diverse so I suggest you try a few different albums to see if any float your boat.

If I listened to vinyl, I'm sure I'd be listening to more complete albums than I presently do (I'm a lazy SOB).

I don't think I've ever listened to a whole Wilko album myself but then again that also holds true to many albums in my hard drive library so it's really not a reflection of Wilko as it is the simplicity of my audio library and the fact I love gendre variety (just music gendre mind you)

HERE ya go, there's long playing samples for 11 Wilco album on this site for anyone to sample. This site's player will only hold 50 tunes so don't forget to clear the tunes after listening to them, especially if you use this site as often as I do to sample albums.

They pretty much epitomized the emerging alternative country genre in the late 90's. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot was their breakthrough album, and there was a documentary made about it that's really interesting. It almost wasn't released due to being fairly experimental, the record company didn't think it would sell. The company released them to find another label. They did, and it was an instant classic and many would claim one of the truly unique and breakthrough albums of the 00's.

However, internal conflicts led to the keyboard player leaving after that album, and they found a new lead guitar guy for their next one, A Ghost Is Born. I also like AGIB more than YHFT, and a lot of it has to do with the haunting guitar riffs and way that the new guy really gels with the rest. Sky Blue Sky was great when I first got it, but I tired of it after a time unlike their previous works. Seems overly produced. It's a bad sign when half the album was used in car commercials. All the same, I loved them in concert during the SBS tour.
