Interesting listening session

I was invited to hear some gear that is fairlly rare down my way.It consisted of Wadia 861 fed directly to Ampzilla 2000 monos, speakers were Sonus Faber Amati Homage.Cables were Cardas.
The Sonus Fabers really are a great looking speaker in the flesh. Not as big as i thought.Ampzillas are not pretty, fairly industrial and the Blue face plate?
Even though they were in a fairly small room(owners lounge room) the sound was effortless, lots of depth, very natural and non fatigueing.Tried all genre of music all performed well but violin was exceptional.3 hours just cruised by,but will go back with my own music in a few weeks time.
Its a hell of a lot of money to spend on a system but if yourve got it,why not.
She is in the process of building a house and will have a special room so i can only imagine the sound then as at the moment its almost near field.
Cheers

Hi Peter,

Thankx for the information regarding your listening session.

I haven't heard of many females being into hifi in such a way.  I can only imagine how much her gear much have cost her.  Bearing in mind it would cost about twice as much in nz compared to the states.

regards

Hi Rocket,
She,s the first one i have met.Her father has Apogee,s&Krell so you can see where she gets it from. The speakers were bought over from Sydney so you can imagine the freight charges.
Its just great to see some of this gear in the flesh and hear the differences (+&-)between your own system and gear like that.
Cheers

Hi Bally,

I don't know how you feel but i've been frequenting this site since it's inception.  I get pretty envious and curious about all the comparisons and shootouts of various hifi equipment.

I did hear a pair of floor standing sonus faber speakers (i'm not sure of the exact model) which were over 10000au and thought they were quite good.   I've had a pair of speakers built locally which i think are in the same league for a lot less.

I'm more interested in diy or directly dealing with manufacturers as i'm a bit sick and tired of hifi dealers (there views are so coloured).

best wishes
