My viewpoint is that the Denon could be the benchmark for slimline digital receivers. I own both the Panasonic and two Tripath amps, and in my opinion, the Tripath chips sound far more musical, warmer, more tube-like and relaxed than the Texas Instruments design.

I am going to hope the distortion spec I saw on the Denon UK website that
read 100watts at 10% THD was a typo and was supposed to read 1%.

It's distortion spec with a +or- 31volt rail is 100watts at 1% THD. 80watts at .03 THD. http://www.tripath.com/audio.htm This is 80 Clydsdale sized watts if it has a decent power supply, which should do a good job on a lot of speakers and be fairly load tolerant. User reports on this piece should be interesting, I hope it is even better than a XR45 and represents the shape of things to come.

No dice, I'm afraid. The particular vendor I contacted in the UK won't ship overseas. But I'm sure there must be someone who will. Or maybe a British AC'er who could help out if one wanted to buy the Denon.

The Denon company will be seriously thinking about bringing to our shores their digital amps. DenonJeff pm'd from AVS forum stating that they will know in the next few months. Along with a whole new dvd product line, August will be the last month that they will be rolling all of them out. Should be a very interesting summer when in comes to Digital and Universal. Yeah baby Yeah

I should start hitting the AVS forum more frequently. I really haven't spent much time there in about 6 months.

What I'd really love would be something like a 3805, but with 7 X 150 W TriPath amps, Firewire input from a Universal, and a fully digital signal path from source to speakers. Maybe a lot of us could then get off the upgrade-go-round then.

Thanks for the tip, Woodsea. I'm cautiously optimistic. Over the years I've seen several awesome Denon products released to the rest of the world that never came to N. America. Maybe Denon will shift this strategy.

I'm seriously considering ordering this unit from them. They offer a 30 day return if defective, and a minimum 1 yr. Japanese warranty (handled through audiocubes). I emailed Kohn again to request the finer points on the warranty.

I honestly think it would be worth it to cast around in the British online market until you find a vendor who will ship to the States. The best price is £312, which exchanges today at $581.34.

Someone asked me about power converters, and I am sure they are widely available for about $20.00 PartsExpress has all that stuff.

Dmason: Have you received any responses from the three UK vendors you contacted? For those exploring the UK connection, maybe the names of the vendors who have been contacted and declined to ship to the states should be posted here. That way duplication of effort can be avoided.

I think supercubes would be a last resort as their price (with exchange) is almost $200 more. Granted, it would ship cheaper, but I still think it would be a lot more expensive.

Makes the idea of talking to a British AC'er more appealing...

Audicubes hasn't finalized the price on this unit yet. Hopefully, it will be less than the $750 they quoted me.

Feel free to email them and say "I'll buy one if you can sell it for $XXX."

I can't imagine that there is UK member who would be willing to go shopping for some Denons, and then go through the trouble of international shipping, all for free. I'd want to kick in an extra $50 or so for his trouble, which would make the deal less sweet. Also, do the prices on the websites reflect the VAT? What about import duty? Last, we'd have to pay shipping twice, if the unit was ordered from one of the online sites with the prices we've seen.

Of course, if Denon would just release these things in N. America, we'd all be happy!

I didn't mean he'd do it for free, but you may be right. It all depends on how much the 2nd leg of the trip would cost. Hopefully it will be available in the US soon.
