Yes, the Denon UK website says it is a 6 x 100 watt digital amp.  I don't see it on the US site, but maybe I just haven't looked in the right spot yet.

Another product mentioned in the press release:

"At the heart of the company's prototype system is the AVP-1x, an audio control center/processor that incorporates a separate and dedicated video pre-amplifier. The AVP control center is fed audio and video signals by the new DVD-1x universal disc transport, and the system is powered by an all-new 7-channel digital power amplifier, the POA-1x. All three components are designed to work together in a reference-quality Denon A/V system, becoming an interconnected, complete solution, utilizing the latest digital transmission technology from disc transport to pre-amplifier to amplifier, so that the end-user will experience the absolute finest in audio and video presentation."

Sounds like just what I'd hoped they'd build, although it will almost certainly be way more than I can afford.  The '770SD would be nice, though, if they decide to sell it here.  Shipping would be a bitch from England! :o

You might be surprised...

I've found shipping from England to not be expensive at all. Usually not any different than shipping from across the country. Being a small digital receiver, it'd not weigh much anyway.

So they're calling their amp the "POA-1x" huh? POA makes me think of "Piece of ass".

If only having a bitchin' stereo would help me get a P.O.A.!

What's the dollar at vs. the pound?  Pretty damn lousy at the moment, I know, like at a several year low.  The Denon is 350 pounds- what is that in money?

"what's that in money?" :rotflmao:

Currently that means $636.273 exactly...

In case you're really wanting to know, 1 GBP = 1.81792 USD at this moment.

Wonder if it's being offered in black or just silver?

Looks like the Denon is based on Tripath's chip:

If I remember correctly, this chip accepts analog input...so it requires separate D/A conversion.

Any chance this unit uses the new Tripath chipset that sends digital input directly to the amp?

One feature that would be huge for me is the inclusion of Dolby Headphone.  Also like the fact that all amp channels have a banana plug post.  My guess is that the overal build quality is slightly better than the Pany digital receivers.  Would love to see a US version.

Looks like the Denon uses the Tripath TA2022 amp.  Scroll down 1/3 on following link:
http://news.shopeasier.com/files/shopeasier_Amplifiers.html

Not sure if this amp (or a certain version of it) allows digital input or not, maybe someone familiar with the Tripath amps could help out.

None of the current format Tripath amps have direct capability. They are working on it, and have a prototype.

This is the multichannel 80watt@8Ohm board. The really exciting thing about this receiver is that the 200 watt chipset is on an almost identical board, having seen them all. I have a hunch that wth some tweaking, the Denon could be hopped up to be a truly high power multichannel receiver, with remote control. It might burst out at the seams but who cares...It looks pretty nice, and would agree that the finish probably is better than the Panasonic.

I am currently shopping the UK market, and hope to import one soon, and get a step-down transformer 220-120V from PartsExpress.

Oh, I forgot about the voltage diff.  I've been eying the Denon, too.  A bummer if it doesn't keep the signal digital all the way, though.

Depends on how you  look at it. These chips sound so good that I prefer the ability to add the NixonDAC to it. In Quad, you now have 2 X 100 watts per side for bi-amping. Same output as the ZR1000 but with all the other stuff, including a tuner and remote. Anyone wanna buy mine?

With current XC, the AVR-770's lowest price, £312UK = $590US. It sorely tempts me, and IF they ship externally, (foreign markets are something the British eCommerce types haven't quite figured out,) it is not any more expensive than cross country UPS, or Canada. ie: Not a big deal nor weight.

I have emailed three eTailers, and if one can hold back VAT and ship, I will order one so we ALL can see what is up.

According to DenonJeff from an AVS forum post-
"Hey guys....Yes I am still around, but since the Special Guest threads has been shut down I only answer PMs.

I never much posted in any of the threads on our products...however I would like to comment that I am not ashamed of the DVD-5900, it is a great product, is it perfect...No, will there ever be a perfect player...Doubt it. But we will try.

If you have specific questions, do not hesitate to PM me. I will post when new product info is ready for release - you will hear about it before the mainstream - and if we have any updates pertaining to our products. That said, No I can't tell you any specifics at this time on the upcoming products - However I can say that we are replacing the entire line of receivers (7 total models) and all new DVD lineup (5 total models). All will be released starting now with the AVR-3805 on through to October - most will be out by the end of summer.

Which reminds me...stay tuned as we are just about ready to release a fix for the sluggish menu and 'macroblocking' as well as the 1394 compatibility issues.

Regards,

Dmason:  Thanks for the info on the Tripath amps.  I'd prefer an all-digital path, but the lack thereof is not enough to stop me from wanting one.  If it sounds as good as the Pany's and has a decent headphone amp I'll really want one.

Another possibity for ordering the 770SD is through Audio Cubes in MA.  I've never ordered from them, but I think the products are typically shipped directly from Japan to your door.  Many folks on the head-fi.org forum have ordered from them with satisfaction.  They have some Denon units on their site that are otherwise unavailable in the US; it may be worth an inquiry to see if they can obtain the 770.  Will probably still need a transformer (they have those too, I think).

I see AudioCubes has a promo where they toss in a free transformer on orders $399 & up...might be worth a look.
