About a dozen students (representatives from each speaker building group) head to Danny Richie's in a few minutes.  It's always an ear opener for these guys to hear what good stereo sounds like- an important step in their quest to design a good set of speakers.   I'll report back tonight.  :D

This is always one of my favorite days of the year.  The look on these guys faces when either the music gets very quiet or very loud is always a kick.  They have never heard the detail  that can be found in quiet passages, such as many in Vienna Teng's work, or the massive yet accurate sound such as Chinese Percussion.  The SuperV's were at their best today.
Then you ask what these guys have in their cars (one had "1000 Watts")- then you tell them that they are listening to a Dodd amp coasting along at half of its 15 watt rating-- they are amazed again.

After a crash course on crossovers, the Clio makes it all visual.

Second order crossover demonstrated.

The best part of all, listening!

Man that looks like a high school field trip.  Only in America!  Man, I'm jealous that I didn't get to go on field trips and take courses in high end audio.  I doubt I would have ever skipped a class.

Awesome stuff!  Danny is a good guy and it's great to see someone sharing a love of music and speaker design with young people.  I'd sign up for the class if it was available locally.

Cheers,

J

Probably the only pics I have ever seen of Danny without shorts on.  It must be cold in Texas! :o

It has been cold in Texas. That 8:30 soccer game this morning started out with temperatures in the upper 30's. Thanks goodness the sun is out now and it is warming up again.

I think I'd rather it just be for the kids.
