No affiliation with this dealer, but its the first pair I've seen discounted:  http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/ship.pl?93035&&zip

I guess Channel Islands is a dealer, and they are offering this pair as dealer demo. Nice discount, shouldn't last long.

I took a chance on these with the hope that, what is a sizable investment for me would pay off with a high quality speaker that I could keep for a long time.
That is exactly the boat I am in...the VR-33s cost more than double what I have paid for any other piece of audio equipment. But if you are going to do make that investment, the speakers are the place to put your money IMO. So far it is looking promising.

There is a guy I know that heard a pair of goldenear speakers (cost 2500.00 a pair), he said they were impressive. I told him that even though they cost less than the VR33, I believe you would be getting a much better speaker in the VR33. Now he has not heard the 33 and I have heard neither.
In fact I don't think it would be a contest but can anybody weigh in on this??

Wow those speakers seem to be pretty impressive based on the specs and pricing.  There's a local dealer so I may have to stop by for a listen.

===========================================================================

I Can't think of better person than you for this job, you have had the 33 at your house, you're honest, heck you have even shown that you can write a pretty good review.
The place that would carry them near me won't have them again till mid July I think, I hope your place has them. I am very curious and will be waiting anxiously, Thanks in advance.
BTW I had wanted to hear a evolution acoustic, but unless I go to a show that will not happen as there is no place to do that. GRRRRRRRRRRRR

Thanks for the props Doug.  I'll see if I can't hear them and report back.  Different electronics/room/etc. so comparison may not be valid but we'll see.  For whatever it's worth, a local dealer has sold a few pairs of the MM2s and he wasn't all that knocked out by them.  They may sound wonderful but I don't think I could ever get over the aesthetics.

Has anyone heard or bought the vr-33’s with the bi-wire upgrade?

The break-in progress fascinates me...last week I noted a huge soundstage but still a little bit of midrange grunge, not as clean as my VR-2s. I left the stereo on over the weekend while I was gone, so it ran about 48 hours on the radio. Came back to find a noticeable change in sound, more relaxed, cleaner, with more ambient cues and information in general. At a guess I am at around 250 hours now.

I am really curious where this will end up...

I seem to recall somebody on this site posted about the bi-wire option...you'll have to read through all the VR-33 posts to find it though :)

Regarding break in, the break in period for my VR5 Anniversaries lasted around 400 hrs. give or take.  The difference between before and after was not a subtle one.

Well the changes so far have been enormous, of course, especially initially. They sounded pretty blah out of the box, but the first 8 hours of break-in had large changes.

The are getting close to audio nirvana now...just wondering how far they can go.

Joe - I ordered a pair three weeks ago with the bi-wire/dual binding post option.  It was $200 extra.

I have never had much opinion about bi-wiring, but for $200 I figured I would keep my options open for future use.

They also had a few new options for end caps at $200 up charge.  Anyone have pics of a pair with the birdseye maple?

How do you like the sound with the upgrade? Did you have any other upgrades done? Thanks.

Joe, can't answer since I bought the speakers with the Bi-wire upgrade. I'm not sure I'll do the $2500.00 upgrade to the VR-35. I don't think the difference/improvement is worth the $2500.00. I might just buy better cables. Looking at the cables Albert sells.

What $2500 upgrade are you talking about?
