Functioning Audio Art.. AC special
« on: 18 Feb 2010, 04:54 am »
Hello all, In an effort to get a few pieces out before my art gallery debut, I am offering a big discount(s) to any of my fellow AC members.. Pricing will obviously depend on product used, material cost and time.. but I am wanting to get a few pieces out there for review/feedback..

Imagine having a no holds barred speaker that is tailored to your listening preference, music listened to, equipment used and room. A truly interactive approach that allows you to be apart of the project start to finish. I use drivers from all the very best manufactures, ScanSpeak, Audio Technology, Seas, Accuton, Eaton, Dynaudio, Lowther, Audio Nirvana, etc in designs that push the envelope. I will even wire these internally with the same wire you use in your system that way from driver all the way to the amp is consistent.

Great care is taken to provide the best time/phase coherency, baffle interaction and minimize enclosure resonance ". I do not have to cut corners or take an easier approach to design and build to lower cost on manufacturing as I feel going above an beyond is the only way.

Also keep in mind, with traditional speakers the second you purchase them they immediately loose 20-30% of their value. That is not true with my pieces as they are truly art an will only be featured in exclusive art galleries around the world starting this year. If anything my pieces will gain in value over time..

Along with every set I supply a CD with build pictures form start to finish, A certificate of authenticity, and a document stating that I will never build a set like it ever again.

Please check out my website "still under construction"

And Facebook page:

Please feel free to email me with questions and

I hope you enjoy my art and look forward to building you the most exclusive and breathtaking audio experience in the world..

Thank you

A little more info on myself and Sounds by Design..

Starting in June, my pieces will make their official debut at the Concrete Ocean Art Gallery in St.Louis Missouri. This will be the first of it's kind being an art driven loudspeaker. Shortly after a piece in Art Dimensions, then off to LA, San Fran, Vegas, Chicago and New York at exclusive galleries.

Pricing once these go live at galleries will start at $15,000 and go up..

Keep in mind that every single project will have different pricing as drivers, crossover, materials used will vary per creation. So you have to get out of the mindset of a traditional MFG.. this is truly progressive.

I am willing to offer pieces much lower than that, but that also will be determined by the creation itself.. The possibilities of getting a $100,000 set for a fraction is worth it IMO...

In order to start a project, a deposit of (50%) up front, but you will should loose the deposit if they decide to back out. And then you have 72 hrs to cancel an order from time of placement.

I wish you best of luck with your gallery Randy. Your offerings are definitely 1 of a kind and there's obviously a lot of hard work that goes into both designing and then producing them. Hopefully the market will keep that in mind when they flip over the sales tag.  :thumb:

Many of Randy's potential customers are already spending that kind of money for a painting to put on the wall or a sculpture to display in their home.

So, I think it's just a matter of the right customer seeing one of his sets that strikes an emotional chord with them.  That, and the fact that it's also functional art makes the price tag partially irrelevant.

Randy,
The art is unequivocally beautiful, and well-done.  You are clearly an artist.  What about the audio side, though?  This is an audio forum and we get to ask the audio questions too.  :)  What kind of feedback have you gotten from reviews, etc.   I'm especially interested cuz you seem to be open to all sorts of drivers, form/function rules and materials...seems no 2 sets of speakers would sound the same...thereby logically asking whether any of them sound any good.   I hope you don't take these questions the wrong way.... your no. 1 goal is to create art, and that you've done.   :thumb:

Great question.. Over the many years of listening to great rigs, i have kept a very open mind to sound.. I think allot of MFG's get tunnel visioned on approach and implimention.. I have come to respect a wide variety of sound from traditional multiways, open baffles, wideband/fullrange, plannars etc and feel all have their strengths/weaknesses..

That's the beauty of my approach and model is that an interview process is given at the beginning. Knowing what sound you like along with equipment in the chain and room all play a factor in the design and approach.. everybodies listening preference and listening space is different, so how can there be a loudspeaker that works in every environment?

The  great thing about my style is that I get to hide what I feel is important to making a great speaker in ways that are artistic. So mechanical alignments in most of my offereings for time/phase coherency, baffles shape/contours that help minimize baffle step issues, Multi layer damping in all constructions using a very wide range of mediums to eliminate panel/enclosure resonance along with coloration. Not only that, I over build that crap out these things..

So all this adds up to a set of loudspeakers that offer truth.. there isn't any cut corners or easier routes taken..

Thanks Steve that is very correct.. many an art patron spends that or allot more for art.. Also plenty of people spend that on Hifi offereings currently.. Why not have something that is exclusive and as unique as you are?..

I will never be the "great for the money guy" as their is a ton of great offerings in that catagory and more each day join them.. Hell the material cost alone for most of my pieces are a few grand not including drivers or xover parts or if you go active via DEQX which I prefer as this gives 1 more level of fine tunning and adjustment to your listening space..

I want to make pieces that give you that emotion that you cannot wait to get off work and listen.. Or you can't stop staring at them everytime you inter the room.. Or proud and overly enthusiastic to invite poeple over to experience..

Concepts for future pieces.. Please keep in mind I can draw just well enough to get my point across  8)

This is the "Liquid Loudspeaker" concept with matching subs.. All drivers will be 6.5 or smaller including the subs

This is the "Deuce Loudspeaker" concept modeled after one of my favorite cars the 32 roadster..

Beautiful Speakers!  When will you be in San Francisco and where?  I would love to see/hear your work.

While I agree that your work looks beautiful, I mean really beautiful, there is one key aspect that needs to be addressed - how do they sound?  Putting them in galleries is great, and I'm sure there are art lovers out there who will buy you work based upon looks.  But audiophiles are a different breed, sound comes first, looks second.  From an audio standpoint, you'd be better served to get a review from something other than an art gallery.
