I've got a Parasound HCA-1201A that I wouldn't mind parting with. Here's a link:

Emotiva just released a low priced mono block amp.

Hmm, wonder if the Emotiva is on sale yet :)

Pez

100 watts even for a low efficiency speaker is entirely unnecessary. Especially for the price you're looking at the difference between 50 watts and 100 watts is 3db. and that's not much at all, barely anything in reality. If you open up that parameter you open up a lot of other options. What kind of speakers are you needing these for?

starkiller

Be doing center channel duty for my Tannoy Saturn S8.  Thing is I have big power on the rest of the system....Odyssey Stratos Plus for the Tannoy Saturn S8 fronts and Anthem AMP 2 SE for the Tannoy Saturn S8 rears.

Pez

Uhhh no.... The Tannoy Saturn center has a sensitivity of 90 db 1 watt 1 meter. So that means that you are able to achieve 105 decibels from 32 watts that's loud. I don't know many people that listen to even movies that loud, but jsut for grins lets pretend you went with a 100 watt amp rather than a 50 watt. The difference is approximately 106.5ish dB for 50 watts and 109.5ish for 100db. Is a 3 db difference really worth it? 50 watts, hell 32 watts should be more than enough for any insane human being with your speakers. :thumb:

But but but, the cannon shots!  The photon torpedoes!  The Balrog! I need every watt possible for those instantaneous bursts of sound!  Well, maybe not :)

Besides, isnt trying to find a 50watt mono about as hard as finding a 100watt one?

Pez

More like trying to find a $250 amp that actually is capable of living up to it's dubious "100 watt" rating is a joke at best. Most amps in this category cater to, forgive my saying, ignorant customers who don't know a watt from a lumen. They list an amps power based off of ratings nobody in their right mind would want to listen to, like what it can push through a relatively innocuous resistor rather than an actual speaker. I think your bigger concern should definitely be sound quality. I promise you any amp you find sub $250 will not provide "100 watts" PROMISE YOU (unless it's used)!

That's why used is fine :)

I second the Emotiva and Outlaw mono blocks.    I would take a look at the Emotiva UPA-1 monoblock 200wpc at 8ohms and 385 at 4ohms, and UPA-2 which is a 2ch amp but you could use only 1 channel and it is cheaper than the UPA-1.

Emotiva amps will deliver their claimed power and then some.  They usually underrate their power out put.

How about a Hypex amp? They work great.

starkiller

The Hypex look good but not inexspenive, at least not for me :)

A very good deal on Agon right now.  A single Outlaw M2200 monoblock, $125.

That Outlaw is pending to me but the buyer I had for the anthem is now waffling a bit.

so, please no more ideas till something pans out.  Really can't afford to buy something if the guy doesn't buy the Anthem.

That emotiva UPA-1 is a 200 watt mono block that easily reaches its power rating with low distortion to boot. Do a little research
