Playlist Question

Hiya Guys,

OK, heres a question for all you knowing souls. Today I finally had to switch hard drives as my 300gig filled to max with the last dozen or so CDs I just ripped. I've been running a terabyte drive as a backup for my main hard drive and the 300gig. So today I set up the terabyte drive as the target drive for both Slimserver and Foobar.

Here is where I ran into trouble. My play lists. The old play lists all point to my old music drive (G:\Music) and the new terabyte drive letter designation is E:\Music.

I have both *.fpl and *.m3u play lists saved and they all point to the old G drive. Is there a way to edit the files and point them to the new E drive? I opened the both of them in Notepad. The m3u files came up easily readable but have no drive designation in the file, it must be embedded. The .fpl file was readable, sort of, but has tons of code and no discernible drive letter called out.

So am I left to rebuild each play list (I've got well over a dozen) or is there something I'm not seeing or thinking of in creating/saving play lists in Foobar?

I guess I could yank the G drive and reassign the E drive letter to G if need be.

Any suggestions for an easy way?....I'm a lazy sod

Scott,

For Slimserver or SqueezeCeneter, I think you can click on "settings" and select the "basic settings" tab and simply put in your playlist folder location.

Alternatively, you could always create a shortcut on your old G drive that points to all the music and playlists on the E drive.

Personally, I'd rename the drives. Seems like you're planting a future "issue" by creating links within software to point to other drives.

Bob,

No issues with links.

I have 5 drives inside my music server and use links to point to them.  Heck, no other way to access all my music.

OK, I'm an idiot. I admit it.

When I was opening the play lists in Foobar, I was opening them while the file folder was still on the G drive. When I opened the play lists that resided on the E drive, all is well in play list land  :duh:

Moral of the story, play lists don't store the drive letter, only the songs and folders.

...I can be a dope sometimes   :duh:
