Need to find a 12v on/off switch...
« on: 27 Jan 2004, 02:52 pm »
I currently am using a Monster power bar HTS1000 that has 4 outlets switched with a 12 v on/off switch.  The signal comes from my pre/pro, such that when I turn on my pre/pro, or turn off my pre/pro the outlets turn on or off.

I would love to find one of these switches to build my own power bar with.

Any idea where I can find one?

Thanks

Not exactly sure but you may be able to use a relay.

Hi Marbles,

An auto parts store (Pep Boys etc)
should sell 12 vdc switches. If the switch is for ac any 120 vac switch should work.

Marbles,

assuming you're intent is to switch a nominally 12Vdc, like that generated by your preamp, use any switch that strikes your fancy or is easy to mount.....

You are not switching a signal of any substantial current, even if you're synching 4 or 5 components to it. There is no need for an automotive or marine switch, as you're not passing a 60amp surge current. Typically, a 115Vac switch, specified for some maximum current, would be specified for that same current at 28Vdc.

Anything in your junk drawer, or available at RatShaque should suffice.

Hi, maybe I am getting this wrong. What I believe Marbles wants to do is to switch 120V by applying/removing a 12V switiching signal.

Is that correct?

If so, the 12V part isn't doing much in terms of startup current etc. but the 120V part might, depending on how much is hanging off the switch.

Marbles, can you clarify this a bit?

I can verify that Ferdi.  You have it right.

Thanks to all that have replied.

I no longer need the switch as Signal cable will be making pretty much exactly what I need.  There time table is 2-3 months, but I am in no hurry.
