« on: 12 Feb 2010, 09:47 pm »
hi all

Recently i bought used SP 1.7 and have a question about volume difference between 5.1 analog vs 5.1 digital.
Digital is much louder,is it right?
Im using Denon dvd 2900.

this forum has been very helpful in making my decision.

Yes there are volume differences.  Some may be depending on the output of the source device.  Digital is usually standard and analog has typically more differences.  Usually analog outs are at 2V but sometimes they are more or less

thanks phil
but 2ch is much louder so i would have thought that 5.1 would be the same.
Is only 2ch bypass using analog volume control?Because it seems to me that 5.1 analog is using digital volume control, could that be a cause?

hi, Misko!

the same happens when you switch on/off the bypass button. the analog 2ch is louder than the digital 2ch. there are differences in gain. so don't get a heart attack when switching... :thumb:

best,

thans alex

I guess this is what i wanted to hear.
I was just little bit scared, you know buying used equipment comes with some risk,so its good to hear that.
By the way i still cant believe what difference it has made"just" changing the receiver for this beautiful machine.

...no excuses needed, Mike. if you feel that the sound with your 1.7 improved then you did the right thing.

ENJOY!

...nice hobby, isn't it?!
a SST or SST2 amp will just complete your setup. let us know what differences the Bryston and the Marantz have.
