Guess what just showed up?

The i-Fi Chair  :banana piano:

This thing is WAY too cool. It's a super comfy recliner that has a kick ass stereo built into it. The amps are Class D (yes folks, I've got Class D in da house!)  :o

The satellite speakers run down to about 120Hz where a subwoofer that is built into the backrest of the chair takes over down to about 50Hz. then a Buttshaker takes over from there.

I'm sitting here listening to Rush Moving Pictures (YYZ right now) at about a million SPL and it flat out ROCKS     It aint like nuttin you've ever experienced before!

I haven't slowed down long enough to listen to any audiophile approved music yet. I've been having too much fun listening to NIN, Massive Attack, Menomena, Rob Zombie...every abusive track I can find. She should do just find on 'regular' music I suspect.

Once I get her dialed in, I'll invite you guys out (maybe two or three at a time) to experience it...and I do mean experience it.

Oh BTW, right now I'm streaming music to it wirelessly from the analog outputs of my Bolder SB3 which is in the living room. The chair has a wireless receiver along with an iPod dock and an auxiliary input (which I plan to hook up a turntable to here shortly).

...WAY too cool  :green:

Is it like "Magic Fingers". :eyebrows:

Insane, Scott, insane.
Where is the refrigerated arm slot for the iced vodka?
What about the built in bedpan?

And I can just see the "mods" for this, with a built in robot vacuum cleaner in the bottom so that you can help with the house work while listening to Deep Purple..."I love it, I need it...I'm a Highway Star!!!"

If they had just come out with that 25 years ago with a built in doobie roller I would never have left the house
I can see me having to make a trip west to take it for a spin.

I think that's an option  :thumb:  It must..... comes out of Oregon

Hey Lyndon, with the butt shaker, I haven't tried it yet but I bet it will hit the 'brown note' with this thing  :o ....in which case I'd definitely need that bedpan

Steve, believe it or not, Laura took it for the maiden voyage. I had to oust her from the chair so I could listen  :o

The manufacturer had several of these chairs at RMAF.  The sound wasn't too bad, but I would definitely prefer them in a home theater setup.  Some of my buddies didn't like them because of the near sound field.

I've experimented with a number of near field setups with very high quality speakers, and after a while the sound becomes fatiguing to me.  I guess I just prefer some breathing space and ambience.

Looks cool, though, and I imagine you wouldn't miss any dialogue in movies!

That's precisely why I would prefer them for home theater or TV shows.   :D

Way too cool, Scott!

Now you need a 3-d helmet and a drool-bucket.

 :o OOhhhh BABY!!!!  :eyebrows:

One more neat thing would be to mount a 42" LCD on a swivel (like the gate on a fence) and have the ultimate gaming chair.

Scott, I assume this is a loaner, or did you buy it?

Super cool, I can't wait to hear it.

Bob

p.s. Should we take bets on the who the first company will have mod kits available for it?

Randy, I'd venture a guess that if you knocked on his door right now with a nice bottle of single malt in your hand, he'd let you in.  :rotflmao:

Well, here's a pic or two of the chair. I thought about taking this thing down into the Blue Room but I came to my senses (it weighs 250 lbs). So the Green Room is where she ended up.

Here's a pic of Laura taking the iFi chair for her maiden voyage.

I was going to go out and play today but I started feeling kinda puny (got a cold) so I just hung around the house. I decided to turbocharge the iFi chair today.

OK, here I've moved a few things around in the room and tub-iFi-ed the iFi chair. I've got my big Koroto KVP10 tubed pre that has a tubed phono stage feeding the iFi chair. The turntable is the AR ES1. I've got the Bolder modded SB3 feeding the Paradisea tubed DAC. And finally I've got the little Pioneer SACD/DVD player for hi-rez and a movie or two.

I've got to say, this is exactly what the chair needed....tubes...well and of course a turntable  :thumb: I'm sitting here listening to Janis Ian on vinyl and it really is stunning. If you love the visceral impact of music, you are going to love this chair. Its pretty frickin awesome.

Bob, this one is just in for review...then again, the better dialed in I get this thing, the more I'm really diggin what it does  :green:

Hey Randy, like Bob said, pretty much anytime...especially if you have single malts with you  I'm still getting the feel for it. Its sort of an experiment in motion at this point.

...now if I could just find out whats causing this damned ground loop hum in the phono stage

Try grounding your chair to the turntable.  :dunno:
I know it's a long shot, but wouldn't I look pretty damn cool being the first person in the world to recommend fixing a ground loop by electrically connecting the chair to the turntable.  :eyebrows:

Nice.  I see an upcoming review with recommendations on how to accessorize your iFi chair.  Go get 'em Scott.  Also, I don't see a built in cooler for the beer.
