I'm selling my Orion+ speakers and ASP. I purchased the plans from Linkwitz in the summer of 03 but did not build the speakers until Dec of 04. I built the speaker myself from baltic birch ply. The front dress panel is 1/4" oak ply and the sides are 3/4" oak ply. I ordered the ASP completely built. I have keep the speakers and ASP up to current spec by doing all the mods myself. These speakers have the rear tweeter and magnet mounting for the mid. I used Speakon connectors, two, one two pole speakon for the parallel woofers and a 4 pole speakon for the mid and tweet connections.

These speakers have been the best speakers I have ever owned and still rank as one of the best I have ever heard. I will never be able to go back to normal speakers after living with open baffle sound. These speakers are in perfect condition and sound fantastic. I travel for work so they were not played on a daily basis. Sometimes they would sit for many months with no use. They were used in a non smoking, cat free environment.

I'm selling due to a lack of work which has caused a lack of money. I would prefer a semi local sale, I will deliver and help setup within 250 miles. The price is $3100 OBO plus shipping containers and shipping. I'm looking to sell soon.

A prebuilt set of Orions from Linkwitz runs $8200.  You might start at $4100, depending on the cabinetry,  and go from there.

Cost of parts is a good starting point.  By my calculations that amounts to $2,450 ($1,758.87 for cost of drivers, $290 for the cost of the plans + boards & $400 for the components to popupate the boards with, including chassis & power supply).

I suppose you should adjust up if the speaker cabinets are to your liking and down if buying used drivers and crossover amounts to depreciation.

On those prices for the Orion parts, let's not forget shipping to get all of those items plus all the little items that are not included with the drivers or plans or asp parts.  Those little things do add up as I have found on a few different projects.

Your price is very fair considering the quality of your workmanship and the reputation of the Orion speakers.  You should put an ad on Audioasylum and think about putting an ad on Audiogon.  You'll have to pay for the Agon ad but will probably sell them very quickly. You might want to bump the price up on Audiogon to cover the fees.  Good luck with the sale and the job hunt.

Thanks for the kind words and advice.  They will be going on Audiogon very soon and yes they will be priced higher.
