Really cool, although he appears to be performing for a silent audience.

I am impressed he didn't drill into his hand and pull a Julia Childs.  :duh:

Still not convinced it was not some elaborate fakeout.

What next---pumpkin drums?

Russell, that site (wimp.com) has some great videos.  I had never seen the site before.  Thank you for "turning me on".  :thumb:  My favorite so far:  http://www.wimp.com/beautifullongboarding/

I don't think it was fake, but I do think there was careful preparation. This was not the first carrot he has played!

I imagine he has done some considerable experimenting with the hole positions, for example, to be able to play that well in tune. He would also have to have the hole positions carefully marked (center punch?) before he drilled.

Years ago I attended "new music" concerts when my sister was studying composition. It was a time when almost anything went. One of the highlights for me was a piece written for vegetable orchestra. The composer had modified various vegetables with conventional mouthpieces. The pickle-o was amusing! Yes, made from a huge dill pickle, drilled.

It is a good site for videos, isn't it?

Hi,
There is two voices on this Bugs Bunny performance, one is the solo melody and another is a follow-up, like marking time.
The bald guy made just one voice, also on the time 01:57 he remove the carrot from the mouth and the music continue to play.
This vegetable has a wonderful real wood Clarinet sound!!    This is a a fake performance...

Have you ever heard of a delay pedal? He is playing through one, so that samples of what he plays are repeated, controlled by a footswitch. He is then playing on top of that.

Not fake.

From what I recall of unattached sax mouthpieces in high school band, isn't the mouthpiece and reed by itself producing most of the sound? (kind of kazoo like) The carrot and funnel is mostly lowering the native pitch, right?
