covering a microphone?
« on: 6 Feb 2010, 01:01 am »
I purchased a Zoom H2 recorder for recording some live shows I attend.
The end of the recording devise is a wide metal screen microphone about about 2 to three inches wide. I want to cover this metal screen so it does not look so obtrusive looking. I was thinking a black nylon woman's stocking. Will this effect the sound? Is there something better to cover it with.   It does come with a large black foam covering for recording outside, but I do not want to use this inside either.
Thanks for your suggestions  !

A thin nylon stocking is probably your best bet. You will loose a bit of high end, but it will gain a bit of wind resistance.

Check out http://www.taperssection.com/ You may find that the included wind screen may be the way to go. they can protect the diaphragm from smoke also... And the very first section is 'Ask the Tapers'
