I finally got a little time to sit back and listen to some tunes for an extended period over the past few days. I was really pleased overall. My entire system, except for the speakers come from AC vendors or recommended by AC members. The front end is Stan Warren mod stuff originally recommended by Eric Hider, w/ and an upgrade via Gregg Straley. The amps are all Odyssey. Subs are GR Research OB servos. Wiring is all Straley Reality, w/ Sonny's new wire being tested on the subs (very nice so far) Room treatments are a number of GIK panels
The system is not the best I've ever heard, but it does little wrong. Nice big stage, tonally good, non fatiguing, super tight bass. I consider myself lucky to have it, considering how little it cost, though still a fair sum. (more than my current car, but heck the car is a '99 POS T&C minivan)
The speakers are Merlin TSM-MMe's, which I bought unheard based solely on the rep. I did not care for the original version I purchased, which was the TSM-M, but after a factory update they are lovely. However, I'm asking a lot from a very small speaker, in a very large room. As funds allow, I will move to the Gedlee Nathan or Abbey or maybe the GR V1 (as I have the sub part) I'm wanting something w/ more headroom, or dynamic capablilty, along w/ controlled directivity.

I would say overall, the GIK panels were the most 'bang for the buck' purchase. I used to think I had a bit of upper midrange glare that made me want a new pre. After getting the panels, specifically putting one up on the ceiling, I no longer feel that way. The mids are now warm and lush, just like I want them.
(this experience makes me wonder about reviews, but then, I'm derailing my own thread! I mean, the Tempest turns out to be a fine pre. The problems I had were not it's fault, but my room)
