Sonographe (by conrad-johnson) SA-400 Power Amp, Modified!

Mods include:
--Upgraded emitter resistors
--Many capacitor upgrades
--Instrument-grade binding posts
--Big power supply upgrade includes addition of a separate power supply board, doubling of capacitance, bypass caps, and soft-recovery diodes
--Chassis damped with Audio Additives 3M Damping Sheets (from Music Direct)
--Probably a few other improvements, too, that I’ve forgotten

--One cosmetic change: The little orange LED has been replaced by a little blue LED.

If you do a Google search on “sonographe sa-400”, you’ll find some nice things written about the stock version of the amp.  As you might expect, the modded amp sounds bigger and better in every way.  Quiet background, and fairly warm-sounding.

Rated at 200 wpc into 8 ohms.  Net weight about 50 lb.

$1050 obo.  Shipping included.

Looks like a nice, well thought-out and very thorough job. Not often people take this much trouble. I bet it sounds very good indeed.

Yes, the stock unit was a really good candidate for modifications: Good transformer, good output devices, well-made circuit board, lots of room inside the chassis.  Parts upgrades and power supply upgrade make a huge difference.
