I thought I would post a warning about tower.com to save others from the customer experience I have encountered. I ordered 5 records and they initially sent 3 of them. After more than 5 weeks I received my 4th record and it was open and warped (cupped). I sent an email and let them know and they said they were upgrading their distribution center and would not accept returns. My 5th record has still not been shipped, and I ordered it on 11/07/2009. They charged my credit card for all of the records. I have requested that they cancel my last record and refund my money and I am stuck with the warped and open record. Tower has no telephone support, just email. I will never order from them again and hope that I save others from a similar unpleasant experience.

They've been a disaster since they went belly up. Unfortunately you discovered this late in the game.

I experienced a similar problem as well. They have terrible customer service and when you receive defective merchandise as I did you get the e-mail as mentioned above.

In my case I had to wait more than a month to finally receive the defective merchandise, and then they refused to do anything about it.
For the last 8 weeks my status on my last item has been "Ships within 2 to 4 days." I finally cancelled the last item and I am waiting to see if I receive a refund.
I thought it is against the law to charge someone's card and then not ship merchandise.
I hope I am able to save other people the headache of transacting with Tower.

I expect it should be straight forward to dispute the charge with your credit card company.

Wilsynet, Great idea. You were posting while I was typing this.
I have a recommendation that worked for me. It was not with Tower so there is no reason to give the details except to say the merchandise I received was definitely defective and I received no response from the reatiler even after several emails to them.
I disputed the amount with my credit card company even though I had already paid the charges. I always pay my CC bill in full and the one-sided correspondence with the retailer took place after I paid. The retailer's lack of communication apparently continued when the CC bank (Chase) contacted them. Chase credited my account and I never heard any more about the issue.
If a retailer is unresponsive and you can document that you have a very strong case for disputing the CC charges. It is also likely they won't respond to the CC companies request for information which would seem like an atuomatic decision for the customer to receive a refund.

Complaints started on day #2 after the takeover. Lotta issues - backorders for which the card got billed on order day (day 1) , late & incomplete deliveries, poor to non existent customer service, et. al.

I have not ordered a thing since before the stores went under. It was OK at that point and I ordered several times without a problem but I figured it was a sign to stay away from them. Bad customer service in this day and age with online choices is a recipe for not being able to offer customer service at all.

I started this thread so I wanted to update everyone on the outcome. I cancelled the last item on my order and Tower refunded my money on the unshipped item as well as the defective item. I paid through Paypal so it took awhile to receive my refund, but they followed through and I am satisfied with the outcome.
