Hi Joe,

Yes I think there is a lot of misunderstanding on the evolution of the amplifiers.

The original 28B SST did not have the latest transformer designs we are currently using.  This new design is very recent in the 7B's (about 4 months).  We tried it on the 28B's first (about 6 months ago) to see if we felt it was worth doing and have since decided to use the same designs on the more recent 7B's and 14B's as well.

james

From this post there could be no way I have the the New Transformers. My amps are going on  10 months at this point.

I am working on getting all this info together - should have it next week. The months are a guess so please do not hold me to that. It may have been longer.  I have a meeting with the production guys on Monday.

It will be great to get all the info together. I was going to email Mike Pickett but will wait until you update us. Maybe this time I won't forget the faceplate upgrade to the "C" version which is what I did when I sent my 14B-SST (S/N 180) in for the "choke" upgrade back in 07...   :duh:

Hi Oldguy,

It's my understanding that any serial number after 1825 has the new power supply.  I have 1850 and 1851 purchased in late June last year so the new PS in the 7's has to be more than 4 months ago.  Look at the footnote at the bottom of page 4 of the review where this is confirmed:

While that is true  I have seen the article as well, this is not what James alluded to in his above post.
I do thank you for trying to help an oldguy out. :thumb: But I will wait to see if it is indeed the fact or not.I'd rather not assume.
The timeline, if James is correct, and  I can't see why he wouldn't be,affirms I have the old transformer.Time will tell I'm sure.
My amps are 10 months old.The new transformers were included 4 months ago. There really isn't any way I have the new transformers.

For the record I'm sure this will be rectified.Bryston are the best to deal with.I wouldn't feel this way if it were some other company.

Is there a way to tell by looking perhaps?

All I can say is the review has a footnote quoting James saying that 1826 and up have the new transformer.  James told me the same thing in a PM.  James also stated above not to hold him to the number of months meaning the serial number cutoff for the new PS is what reigns.

Hi guys,
I am back. Had a little time off with my family in South America, we have a small family vineyard in Chile. Nice to be back.

Just wanted to say that I am going to host The NYAR RAve in March, maybe Bryston would like to send an amp for us to audition in the flesh.
I need about 100 to 150 watts, I use a tube preamp so the amp would need to be tube preamp friendly. Something burned in would be good.

Let us hear what the Bryston sound is like in front of a full group of audiophiles with diverse backgrounds and diverse tastes.

A challenge of sorts.

I promise to be a good boy, and instead of a reviewer giving the review, let the members of AC(outside of the Bryston circle) give their review, so we can put this topic to bed. A laurel leaf.

Thanks

Mike

Even a 3b would be fine, I don't need tons of power, speakers are Audio Physic Virgo 2's 89 db 4 ohm, but they tend to be a tough 4 ohm.
I use 100 watts tubes with no problems.
Preamp is Emotive Audio  Sira  w/ Vcaps
As long as there is a stiff power supply all will be well.
Just need the  impedances to work with the tube pre. 47 k or better please!

Thanks
Any of you Bryston circle guys want to come?
You are more than welcome, I have a spare bedroom if someone wants to sleep over(recommended).

Mike

Hi Mike,

TR is an excellent guy.   He's just misunderstood around these parts.

I've never met him but we've developed a friendship over many phone conversations.   He is very friendly, has a great sense of humor, and is passionate about audio.  But he also has perspective and doesn't think audio is life and death.  He's a bit of a jokester who likes to stir the pot sometimes and watch you guys overreact.  He sets the trap and you guys fall right into it.  I don't interpret anything he's said here as mean spirited or out of line.

Besides...who cares what anyone else thinks or likes?    :dunno:  There's room enough for all points of view, so long as respectfulness and decorum are observed.  Just build your system as you like it and enjoy.  If someone criticizes it or disagrees with your choices, so what?  If you are confident and secure about things, that's just water off a duck's ass.

Not that he needs me to defend him.  I've watched these skirmishes with bemusement and quite frankly, disbelief at the level of anger that he can provoke.  Some of you guys just don't "get him" and are waaaay too defensive.  If you were to meet him in real life, I'm sure you'd enjoy killing an afternoon over beers with Mr. Roast Beef.

Just my 2 cents.
