Hi James,
In the Stereophile review, there was a note from Larry G, that said you could 'adjust the output level of the BDA1 with the remote control' - what is that about?
Does the BDA1 have adjustable output levels?
Thanks,
Bill

YES, adjustable output level.

with BR2 remote.

0,-1,-2,-3 dB options, NOT a full volume control.

CODE, then 250,251,252,253 to select each.

The lowered output allows an increase in 'control' of volume when FULL is not required.

Andy.

Regarding this gain adjustment, which can be handy when matching, is the range of attenuation only from 0 to -3db or does it extend farther?
Thanks,
Bill

The manual shows 0 to 3.

I have tried other numbers just in case

But only those in the manual are available.

Andy.

If was a few weeks old.  A guy on Audiogon is an addict and has sold a couple of hundred things and bought it waiting for something else.  Since I probably will end up for more than one digital source (as of right now I am trying to convert files on a USB hard drive for my Western Digital Media Player).  I sold my BCD-1 for $1,650 and bought the BDA-1 for $1,600.  I just have tons of transports laying around.  Right now I am breaking the BDA-1 in with my Philips DVD Recorder in the main system but I'm waiting for my modded Oppo BDP-83 to come back.  I also have an Elite LD player in the system and on the other side of the wall in the bedroom system is an Oppo 980 and a Samsung Blu-Ray player.  I have a cable going down to my basement system and I am likely going to take the digital out of the BDA-1 and put it into my old MicroMega DuoPro DAC down there.  I also have another LD player down there, a Marantz D9600 and a PS3.  I have a Sony 2000ES CD/SACD changer which is currently on Audiogon but  I might end up keeping it.  We'll see

The subjective section of the Stereophile review did not address the differences in sound when the upsampling switch is on or off

The measurement section notes that some measurements were worse when the upsampling switch was on.

Phil,

how long is the cable that goes from your BDA down to the basement system?

I used Canare 75 ohm component cables (and also ran Cat5e) and it is probably under 15 feet.  The only thing I've used is the Cat5e and one leg of the component cable as I have a camera facing the front door hooked up in the garage attic via a 5.8G wireless sender where the receiver is in the basement and I split the signal and bring it back upstairs.  I put it in for the purpose of the Cat5e and the camera and it I don't like the results (it would just be mainly for background music from my Western Digital Media player - I'm in process of converting my files via its software from lossless WMA to MP3s and I can always also play around with streaming to the PS3 in the basement too and I can also store on the PS3 hard drive and have the Micromega DAC down there) it is not a big deal.  If I go with the SP3, I'll use the BDA-1 balanced in the main system and I have analog cables running to the bedroom on the other side of the wall and I can play through the BDA-1 to the bedroom system and I feed 4 remotes places via a speaker switcher.  I'm not going to go overly nuts about background stuff.  If I'm running at some  point the BDA-1 into the bedroom system, that's pretty high playback quality.  I can also at some point look at another media player or try something with the Oppo's USB port too.
