Question about RM-1
« on: 22 Jan 2010, 08:02 pm »
Brian,

I noticed in a thread in AudioAsylum that you now have placed a notch filter in the mid panel section of the RM40 crossover to help tame a slight bump in FR response between 1-3k Hz.  I own a pair of RM-1’s and would really like to implement a similar filter.  Could you PM me and provide me the component values for a notch filter for the RM-1?  Since the 40 uses 4 panels, I suspect in a series/parallel arrangement, I would think the same filter used in the 40 might work in the RM-1.

You are correct, we place a .12mH 14 gauge aircore coil in series with the panel.

Hey Brian, haven't been able to find a .12mH 14 gauge aircore coil, closest I got was .13mH @ 18ga...would that work? Or can you supply that exact part?

I have made several mods to my RM-1 speakers. I will post them if there is an interest among other users. My dog really likes them. He wants to sit in my lap every time I fire up the RM-1's. He especially likes Frank Sinatra for some reason, but he is a Rottweiler and likes to do things "his way".

Sure, post the mods you have done, always good to have feedback from other RM1 owners.  :thumb:

I tried to start a new thread on the mods, but as a new member I am not allowed to start new threads, so it was thirty wasted minutes of my time. Maybe later I will post the mods.

I am getting -6dB at 25Hz and extremely tight bass, tighter than my old Vandersteen 2Ci and about 5Hz more bass extension along with more efficiency.
