Bryston Pre+Power set or Integrated B100??
« on: 17 Jan 2010, 01:33 am »
Hi,
Wonder IF there is a general concordance about it:
>> What is the best sound Bryston preamp to use with the 2BSST2 or 3BSST2 ??
>> Or best sound is a integrated B100??
The interconnect is the Kimber KCAG.
Thanks for yours input.  Gustavo

Hi,
Gustavo
to my piont of view the better option is using the XLR connection which is not presented in B-100.
There is another option using B-100 both as pre-amp and power amp and have a second 2B-SST for bi-amping.

Hi Gustavo,
as I have already bought B-100 I had to place a audio ground transformer to isolate the common ground current between BCD-1 and B-100. Now is much better and the amplifier controls the speakers easier. Many friends have told me not to do this, but to my ears this is a better sound. If I had to buy now | would choose XLR connection units. In the Jensen Transformers there is explanation about audio connections.  http://www.jensen-transformers.com/iso_aud.html
Have a read and will understand what I mean.

Thanks for the link. I happy it works for you.
Maybe I misunderstand your post, looks a too big transformer for audio/music signal, I assuming you are using this transformers in electrical mains wall outlet as filter etc...
I have a unsuccesfull experience with balanced transformers, I already use a 5kg 300W Toroidal transformer to down 220V to 120V for my SCD-1 power feed, for some 5-6years, but when I remove the transformer and started use a direct 120V outlet the afew month ago, I have a huge gain in sound quality.
So I realize my condo Transformer is a big 225KVA with 13.8KVolts input and my Toroidal just 300Watts with 220V input.
Regards, Gustavo

Hi Gustavo,
the link is for interconnects isolation, nothing to do with mains.

I see, Thanks for clear.   My other hypothesis for this devide was it could transform a unbal connection in balanced.
Do you have try aluminium tape to passively isolate the cabe??

H Gustavo,

When we design our integrated amps we do not compromise the performance. In fact we use the exact same parts just on one chassis rather than two.  So I think it is more a choice of packaging rather than performance.
