Best Use for SP 1.7
« on: 16 Jan 2010, 12:43 am »
I haven't kept up with the latest audio specs., etc.  I am setting up my HT after it has been inactive for a few years.  With the new BD audio formats,  am I better off letting the BD player (Denon 3800) do the decoding and run the SP in 5.1 analog bypass or digital 7.1 or some of each or non of the above ??  I am using a mix of older Bryston amps, 7B sst x 2, 3B sst, 6B sst.

You can only get the hi-rez audio using the 5.1 analog inputs

That of course means decoding in the player

Thanks...I won't bother setting up the rear speakers.

Edited post...

Delete.  Sorry...Didn't do the math that the SP 1.7 has only 5.1 inputs,. not 7.1  (BluRay audio can do 7.1 hirez content but it's moot here).  Doh! :duh:

You'll still love the hirez that the 3800 puts out, regardless of 5.1 or 7.1 (and truth be told there's not a whole lot of true 7.1 yet).
