Aureality Mini-Monitor
« on: 15 Jan 2010, 08:50 pm »
The RAAL ribbon tweeter is exceptionally good and found in other speakers selling up to $15,000/pair. We decided to make it available to those who want a more affordable speaker. What we came up with is a sealed-box mini-monitor that starts at $1,395/pr. (cost dependent on finish). The woofer is a 5.25" aluminum cone with exceptional linearity and speed to keep up with the ribbon.

There are many ways the Aureality can be used - high performance nearfield or 2-channel small room listening. Ideally it would be combined with a high quality subwoofer (such as our Whomp) for 2-channel small to medium size rooms. HT systems for smaller rooms and perfect as a high end surround. From 80hz on up you can't beat this speaker for the $.  :thumb:

Available soon for demo...  8)

This sounds excellent - and I can stretch my budget to this - good timing!  :)
I am looking forward to seeing some pics and getting some more details.

Details should be on the site by the end of this week. We just finished the cabinets for a new reference monitor as well.  :thumb:

Would love to know how much of a downgrade this woofer's performance is compared to others you've paired the RAAL with.

Actually it competes very well with the more exotic drivers. The cost is lower because of where it's made (China) and the stamped steel frame. In this case the neo motor is very light and a heavier cast frame isn't needed. I did some extended listening for a few hours today and it's pretty scary how good the Aureality is - and I'm not one to exaggerate and use marketing fluff!

Rick - what woofer are you using? - is that the RAAL 70-20?

I think you're right. I've heard nothing but good things about those woofers, they look pretty sweet.

Yes, that's correct. We cherry pick from the best off-the-shelf drivers with the exception of the RAAL 70-20XR which isn't available to the general public. Many speaker companies have drivers made for them so they can have something that's proprietary. The problem with that is buyers can't make good comparisons like they used to a few years back. At one time most high end speakers were designed with European drivers from Scan-Speak, Seas, Vifa, Focal, etc. and consumers could get a good idea of what the product was really worth. Now the lines have been blurred and real costs are not so transparent.

Rick,

Is that a 0.25 cubic foot cabinet? If so, it just may be the right thing to replace the speakers in our bedroom.  :eyebrows:
