NE-7M and iphone, button doesn't function

Recently purchased these headphones. They sound great, but I was expecting the button to function for pausing music on my iPhone 3G and double clicking to skip to the next song, like the stock apple earbuds. This is pretty much make-or-break for me. So I'm back to using the stock ones.
Haven't tried call pickup yet.

Is this normal? or did I get a broken set?

This is not normal and the best place to get support is to log a help desk ticket (I thought we included a support label with every sales receipt).
