Why can't I install foobar?
« on: 10 Jan 2010, 12:24 am »
In the past I've by passed all the know-how that one needs to get good audio out of a computer by using a Squeezebox.
I find I now need to install Asio4all and foobar to optimize my Chaintech. When I try to install foobar I get a message asking me what program to use to open it. I have no clue what this is asking. Can anyone help?

Foobar is only currently available as a .torrent download.  You will have to dowload a torrent client to download the foobar executable, such as BitTorrent http://www.bittorrent.com/

After installing BitTorrent, you can use it to download the foobar executable file.  Add the .torrent file you downloaded from foobar (foobar2000_v1.0.exe.torrent) and click Start to download it.  After the download is complete, right click on the file and select Open Containing Folder.  You will see the foobar executable file (foobar2000_v1.0.exe) and you can double click on that to install foobar.

I downloaded BitTorrent  but it was telling me I needed to open a port because my router was getting in the way (no idea what to do). It looks like I need to do something else.

I don't have any special port forwarding set in my router, so it is more likely a firewall setting.  BitTorrent.exe needs to have Internet access, and when I installed it, it asked for access and I granted it.

Router and firewall troubleshooting can be tedious, so the easiest thing for you to do is download the latest previous version from Scotty's links, then you can upgrade to the new version when the standard http download for foobar becomes available in a few days.
