Wow, talk about having a bad day. Things couldn't have gone more wrong for Colt. Watching from the side lines had to really be tough. He sure handled it well though. It looked like Alabama was handed a gift to me. Take away the interceptions and fumble and all the points that resulted from them and the whole game would have went the other way. Alabama really had little in the way of offense the whole second half. With Colt back in the line up I think Texas would have beaten them nine out of ten times.
I disagree. Take away the points scored on turn overs and they don't win the game. I don't think they were the better team. The stats may show that as well. I think they were the luckiest team. Four interceptions and a fumble from the back up quarterback handed them the win. All resulting in a touchdown or great field position with little yardage needed for a touchdown. Alabama only put together two scoring drives (only in the first half) that started on their end of the field. They were clearly the recipient of a gift horse.
You can't say take away the points on turnovers - they happened.
While I would think that Colt McCoy would play at higher level than Gilbert did, you don't know how he would have performed
yeah, I gotta side with Danny. We ARE talking about a heismann candidate QB vs. a rookie QB who essentially hasn't taken a NCAA snap all year or attempted a pass. He looked like he was scared to death the entire first half, his movements were nearly robotic. Not to mention the huge advantage to Bama KNOWING that they would just try and RUN safe plays(probably the 3 plays the freshman practiced all year). Not to mention the defense fatigue factor that results from good offensive drives vs. say three and out or two and turnover scenarios they faced last night. The fact that the longhorns actually made a game of it doesn't say much for Alabama, who under the circumstances should not have allowed a TD with the unprepared rookie QB standing in. $.02thanks, Shane
