I finally heard for the first time ever, the Guess Who, Wheatfield Soul. Wow, what an LP!!!! What producer destroyed this band and made it into a top 40 mess. I had no idea this LP was this good. Good God. I think I also hear a little Jim Morrison like stuff (the Doors) in a few of the songs. Also for 1969, its a great recording!

I guess it's better late then never.

I bought this LP with the 1000 that I bought from an elderly lady who's son was stationed in Germany. She said he'd buy an LP, put it onto RTR and never play it again. I got LPs coming out of my ears that I haven't heard yet. That is going to change.

2Big, the LP is on RCA #ANL1-1171 STEREO. It also says Formerly available as LSP-4141

Hope this helps. I will look for a copy for you as well.

What Guess Who songs would you lump into the "top 40 mess" catagory exactly? Clap for the Wolfman was a later stinker, I'll grant you that...but you can't be talking about Laughing, She's Come Undone, Share the Land, Hang on to your Life, American Woman, etc...

IMHO, several songs you have mentioned are way over produced. Now that I have heard what the band could have sounded like (if left alone to be creative), those type of hits could have been even better, but  may not have had the airplay that has made, at least me, completely sick of them (from over play).

Here's another great Canadian band that leaves you reminiscing of Jim Morroson on vocals...

Last weeked I picked up about a dozen LP's at one of my favorite used LP places. One of them I bought just for one tune, and even then it was of suspect quality (extremely filthy), but for a half dollar who'd be afraid! Yesterday I drug it out and cleaned it with my home brew deep cleaner (the commercial stuff would have had a chance here). When I played it it was dead quiet! The LP was a Bobbie Joe Gentry recording that had "Ode To Billy Joe" on it. Whoever mastered it; let alone set the mics up did one hell of a job! Some of the best quality upper end on anything I've ever heard. I also picked up an Errol Garner LP that was ten times the price, but needed it for my Errol Garner collection. It too was dead quiet and beautiful as expected.

Speaking of "ode to Billy Joe" - everyone should check out the Live King Curtis version on the LP "Live at The Filmore West!!
