Stereo/Mono option...
« on: 19 Jan 2004, 10:32 pm »
Is there any way to include some form of Stereo/Mono switch in the Cornet?

I seem to recall some way of running both outputs from a Stereo Cartridge though some form of transformer that summed the outputs and canceled the differences and had the same output as a true Mono cartridge.

Anyone have any idea how to do this?

It depends on the type of modulation of the record - horizontal or vertical.  For horizontal, you can just tie the two inputs together of a stereo cart.  A simple switch right at the inputs can do this.  If modulation is vertical, then you need to swap polarity of one channel and then sum.

Or at least I think that's how you do it.  Using a stereo cart is not the best thing for mono records.  You're better off using a mono cart with the right size and type of stylus.  Check out Shure and Ortofon.  And then use just one channel for playback.

jh :)
