open baffle sub help
« on: 3 Jan 2010, 02:45 am »
I have done some searching with few results so I wanted to get some opinions.  I am building an open baffle system using the TB w8-1808.  The baffle will be aprox. 18"wide and 40" tall.  I need a woofer to use in the baffle with the TB to handle the lower frequencies.  I would like to keep the woofer 12" or less if possible, and I am not opposed to using multiple subs per tower to get the output to match the TB.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Here are some specs on the TB if it helps.

Thanks......

Perhaps a pair of these per side: http://www.diycable.com/main/product_info.php?cPath=24&products_id=674&Cid=ba971c89ff783d10c97a5e096c7a9803

You'll need to amp the subs separately. Also be realistic about output levels at low freq.

I'd be very interested to know how you find the sound of the 1808 on OB.

if you are okay with an 18" baffle, then it seems silly to not consider 15" woofer(s) . . . Have a look at the Eminence Alpha 15, or the Acoustic Elegance OB15, or IB15 for starters.  Most choices will will require own amplification;  However, A pair of properly XO'd Alpha 15's per side will easily keep up with the TB without requiring a sub amp.
