Got some good books for xmas on woodworking

I got some woodworking book for xmas.  I had dug a little and found pretty solid recommendations for Taunton's series of woodworking book.  So I gave some suggestions for ideas to the fam.

I got Jeff Jewitt's Finishing in the Taunton series.  I had used Jeff's guide for padding shellac on the internet. Padding Shellac.  I found this a very good tutorial and easy to understand, so I thought his book would be nice.  It is.

I just skimmed through it so far, but it is very detailed and lots of pictures to show what he is explaining.  In fact the pictures are very well thought through to show exactly what he is describing.  I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interesting in building speakers and wants to do a decent job on the finish.  Its only ~$25 on amazon, so consider it savings from botching the job if you are flying blind.

I also got

Gary Rogowski, Joinery from Taunton  &
Robert Settich, Built-Ins also from Taunton

I've only thumbed through these books but so far I have already learned a few things and seen lots of methods that make what I've already done look a lot easier.  Good jig examples.  Never under-estimate the power of a good picture to describe what is being explained.

I am going to do some built-ins for the Study, so the Built-in book was for that.  I had an idea of how I might do this, but this makes it a lot more organized and well thought out.

They even show a Festool plunge saw being used in one example.  I plan to get that saw.

sounds like some good stuff, Josh.  Festool makes some bitchin' tools, but they are a bit spendy!   Good luck with your projects.

Cheers,
Greg
